Burkework Builders Scholarship

Empowering Future Entrepreneurs for Community Growth

The Burkework Builders Scholarship was established to support and empower African American scholars who understand the vital role of business ownership in fostering economic growth within their communities. This scholarship aims to provide financial assistance to students who are committed to entrepreneurship and strengthening families, recognizing that these are key pathways to financial independence and long-term societal progress.

ELIGIBILITY

A student entering his/her first year of college during the 2025-2026 academic year, Enrollment in a Historically Black College of University (HBCU) , A student who is either 

(1) raised in single parent home; or

(2) if from a two-parent home, the student must have a 3.3 GPA minimum

SELECTION CRITERIA

Applicants must submit two (2) separate 750-1,250 word essays. One discussing The Importance of African American Business Ownership and a second on How to Combat the Destruction of the Black Family.

Essays must be written in Associated Press (A.P) style.

SUBMISSION PROCESS

All applicants must submit essays, proof of enrollment at an HBCU and provide proof of a minimum 3.3 GPA (GPA requirement only applicable to students raised in a two-parent home) via email to [email protected]; noting “Burkework Builders Scholarship” in the subject line.

The final signed copy of an acceptance letter is sufficient to verify enrollment to a HBCU. The applicant can provide proof of their current GPA via the most recent report card or transcript.
